Marin Morning: Musical performance by Son de Fandango, Wed, 10/4, 8:30am
Please join us tomorrow, October 4th, for a special Marin Morning, 8:30 - 9am, to help us celebrate Latino/Latinx Hispanic Heritage Month. We will have a special musical performance by Son de Fandango.
The birthplace of Son Jarocho is Veracruz. Mexico, located on the eastern coast, next to the Gulf of Mexico. It is a form of traditional music and dance that dates back to the beginning of the 17th century. It has three cultural roots: Spanish, African and Indigenous Mexican. The main instruments used are the following: Jarana and leona (5-10 string guitar-like harmony instruments); guitarra de son and harp (melodic instruments); tamborine, donkey or horse jaw and tarima (percussion instruments). The celebration in which people come together to play, sing, dance and enjoy Son Jarocho is called a Fandango. The tarima (large wooden platform for dancing) is the heart of the Fandango. We invite you to enjoy this musical tradition with us!
