Dear AUSD Community:
I hope this email finds you, and your loved ones, well.
We are nearing the end of week one of our planned three-week school closure, and I want to thank you for patience, understanding, flexibility and support during these highly unusual, unpredictable and unforeseen circumstances.
In a recent press conference, Governor Gavin Newsom speculated schools may not reopen before the end of this academic year. This decision has not yet been made for AUSD, but given this possibility, we are beginning to plan for this contingency.
The California Department of Education (CDE) has provided guidance to schools and districts regarding ways to support student learning while schools are closed. CDE has also shared a list of Distance Learning resources. Per CDE's guidance, Distance Learning may include video or audio instruction, instructional television, video, or other instruction that relies on computer or communications technology; it may include the use of print materials incorporating assignments that are the subject of written or oral feedback; and it may include a blended approach. Site and District leaders are moving as quickly and thoughtfully as possible to develop sustainable, accessible and equitable learning opportunities for all students.
I know there are many questions around a number of important issues related to students learning at home. Please be assured, District and Site Leadership are working to address these issues. We know this process will be incremental and not without its challenges, but we are committed to working in partnership with staff and families to support the needs of all our students.
