Dear Albany Community,
The AUSD Choir Festival last Saturday was a turning point for our community. Several hundred early elementary students, the 4th & 5th Grade Choirs, AMS, and AHS Choirs all sang together on the steps of the high school to a large crowd of supporters. It was the largest choir festival in the history of AUSD and a beautiful demonstration of the power of arts education. We plan on continuing the music programs for TK and Kindergarten next year, so that all TK–5th grade students will have year-long music instruction. Choir and band options will be available for students in 6th–12th grades.
COVID Cases Rise
COVID cases have increased, as indicated in the COVID Dashboard. The rates are consistent with the rise throughout Alameda County and neighboring districts. Please remember that AUSD strongly recommends that everyone wear a high-quality mask at all school sites. Students and staff should stay home when symptomatic and take a COVID test. If you are not vaccinated, please test regularly. All positive test results should be reported to your school. A limited number of free at-home rapid test kits for students are available through each school’s main office.
Surveys—A Key Tool
Thanks to all who participated in the Calendar Survey for the 2023–24 school year. 364 parents/guardians and 155 students provided input that will help the Board of Education make a final decision at an upcoming Board Meeting. You may wonder about all the surveys—Why are you being asked so often for your opinion?
It is because one of the three key goals of the District is to “Communicate and Lead Together”. This means that community and student involvement is sought throughout the year on many decisions. Input may come through committees that include parents/guardians, staff, and students, from speakers at public meetings, and from surveys sent out to the entire community. Your responses are studied carefully and are valued.
Today, I am requesting that you spend a few short minutes to voice your opinion about actions and services throughout the District related to our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is updated annually and re-written every third year. A new plan is due this year, and will be presented to the Board of Education in June. The LCAP describes how approximately $4 million is spent, so this is a meaningful and important effort. Each survey lists the actions and services that the District has proposed for one of our three overarching goals. You can select the actions and services that you would like to see supported, or propose additional ideas. You can also anonymously rate other's thoughts to help identify efforts that resonate with many.
Thank you for completing all three of these brief surveys. Your opinion influences District actions.

In-Person Elementary Open Houses
Elementary Open Houses will be held in-person on Thursday, May 12. All are invited to visit your student’s class and see their work. Masking will be required.

El Festival de Coro de AUSD el sábado pasado fue un punto de inflexión para nuestra comunidad. Aumento de casos de COVID
