Albany Middle School: Construction Project on Brighton

The City of Albany is creating a bio-swale on the Albany Middle School campus near the library to filter water running off of street to prevent pollution. This project is part of a grant that the City received and includes an education component for Albany Middle School students. The Raingarden will be constructed for teachers and students to see how bioswales work, and teachers can use this area as an opportunity for teaching cross curricular lessons. During construction, the North sidewalk in front of school will be inaccessible. We asked the City to ensure that the noisiest portion of the construction occurs before students return to school. However, construction will occur during the first two to three weeks of school.

Parking in front of Albany Middle School will be limited due to the work area. There will be ample signage and barriers to keep children and motorists out of the construction area. In addition, flashing school signage will be installed on Brighton.

If possible, please drop students off on Key Route or Masonic Avenue and remind them to cross Brighton on the crosswalks.

Marin Elementary School: Construction Project on Curtis Street

The Marin sidewalk improvement project started on August 8th with a projected completion date of September 8th. This project is designed to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow in the Curtis/Marin area. Most of the demolition work/noise making activities were completed in the first two weeks of the project. The West side of Curtis (closest to school) is phased to be completed first.

There will also be flashing school signage installed on Marin and Curtis. There will be raised crosswalks installed on the North corner of Sonoma crossing Curtis. A speed bump will also be installed on Sonoma approaching the intersection of Curtis. Please use caution when using these corners as you walk and drive to Marin School. One of the safest alternatives is using the light at Santa Fe and Marin Ave where there are also two crossing guards. Thank you for your cooperation and diligence during this construction project.
