YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT: Regular attendance is vital to your child’s success in school, and to the fiscal health of the district. Thank you for helping to ensure that your child attends school every day, unless they are ill. If at all possible, we ask that you schedule medical appointments after school, and that you plan family vacations for days that school is out. Below are some dates that would lend themselves to vacation days. In the event that your child is going to be absent, please call our attendance line at 558-4787 before 9:30 am and leave a voicemail message, indicating your 1) Child’s Full Name, 2) Room Number, and Reason for the Absence. If we don’t hear from you when your child is absent, an auto dialer call will be sent. Thank you!

The school year is off to a great start and we are thrilled to have your student here at Marin. Albany Unified School District is dedicated to success for all students, and regular school attendance is an integral part of that. Attending school every day helps children to be actively engaged in their classrooms. When they are late or absent, they need time to catch up, which can be upsetting in a variety of ways to students. It also requires more from our teachers and staff, as it takes time to get students caught up on the material they missed.

This is a reminder to talk to your students about general safety while traveling to/from school and “stranger danger.” Click the link for some basic guidelines and tips.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT: All Parents (1st – 5th grades) are invited to Marin Back-
to-School Night, Thursday, September 12th, 7:00-8:00 pm. I will welcome you at 7:00 pm in the Big Yard, next to the picnic tables, to introduce staff. PTA Co Presidents Abby Wentworth and Stephanie Best will speak briefly about PTA. Following this brief presentation, teachers will meet you in their classrooms. I encourage you to make every effort to attend - teachers will be communicating many essential details about curriculum and their plans for the year. If you have specific concerns about your child, please talk to the teacher at another time. Back to School Night is an adults-only evening. Please arrange child care in advance.

LABOR DAY! Monday, September 2nd, is Labor Day. School will be closed.
SPLIT READING 1st-3rd: Tuesday, September 3rd, we begin our split reading
(earlybird/late bird) schedule for grades 1, 2 and 3.

Dear Marin and Ocean View FamiIies,
I hope this finds you all enjoying the summer! I look forward to beginning another school year and seeing you and your children on campus once again. I’d like to extend an especially warm welcome to new students and to our Ocean View (OV) Kindergarten students and teachers! We are hosting OV students while their school
is under construction, and we are elated to have them join us. My staff and I want to do everything we can to make OV families feel welcome and included in our school. Please know that all OV families and students attending Marin are welcome to join any of our school events throughout the year, and we certainly hope that you do. I am greatly looking forward to seeing our communities coming together.

We have a wonderful year of learning planned for your children! Due to state-wide budget cuts and decreased funding available to our school, we have put together a list of supplies that would be helpful to have for each child on the first day of school.
While your classroom supply contribution is optional, it is highly appreciated. Your supply donations support our classrooms so that our limited funds can continue to help our fine school programs thrive. If, for any reason, this is a hardship, the supplies will be provided by the school and/or our wonderful PTA.
